As NYFW, or any Fashion Week for that matter returns, we expect to see long runways, traditional models and fortress tight guest lists to a variety of ready to wear shows. Upon further inspection however, the bustling world of underground fashion is ever present, favoring hard to find warehouses, street casting and a more inclusive (but oftentimes equally exclusive) guest list. This season we attended 3 fashion events which included a dry cleaners, an opera singer and lot of really fucking cute people.

Independent label LRS designer, Raul Solis opted to inhabit Next Cleaners to present his collection; a quirky and colorful display with cutouts, texture and photographic elements courtesy of photographer Ryker Allen. Instead of the expected models wearing clothes thing, Solis sent faux dry cleaner employee cohorts down a makeshift runway with pieces in hand to be hung on a rotating dry cleaning rack. The presentation was playful and refreshing and set to the tune of fashion darling Sarah Abney’s live soundtrack.
